How to make Buns (Bun Recipe)

Buns are soft bread (dinner) rolls which are often sweetened or even spiced. Many of you must have heard the term Hot Cross Buns which supposedly had more religious overtones to it, were spiced Buns made around Easter. Buns usually are rich dough like Brioche and contains eggs and butter along with sugar.

Buns are eaten with salted butter, at times even as sliders (toasted burger buns) and at times with your gravy or Stews. Follow this recipe to make some delicious soft Buns.

Basic Bun dough recipe

Make this simple and delicious Bun and you will have the house smelling beautiful and homey plus your family and guests will be impressed.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 gms All purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Instant dried yeast
  • 60 ml Milk+water
  • 1 no Egg
  • 50 gms Unsalted butter or margarine
  • 25 gms Caster sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1 no Egg+water for brushing the top

Instructions
 

  • Mix your yeast in slightly warm water and some sugar and keep aside for 5 minutes
  • Sieve and whisk your flour and make a well in the centre
  • Add the yeast mixture after 5 minutes and mix the dough
  • Beat the egg with the remaining sugar and add to the flour mixture
  • Knead well for 5 minutes
  • Add the butter and knead again till the butter is mixed in and dough is not sticky
  • Keep in a deep bowl and cover with cling wrap or wet cloth for 1 hour
  • After an hour, your dough would have risen in size
  • Turn out the dough on a marble top surface and cut to make into 8 round shapes
  • Line your baking tray with a baking sheet and sprinkle some flour
  • Place your bun rounds on the baking tray - distance apart and keep for 15 minutes. You can cover them with a wet cloth or clink wrap
  • Preheat the oven to 150 deg C
  • Brush the top of your buns with a mixture of egg and a spoon of water mixed together, using a brush. Coat the surface well
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes till the tops are coloured and your buns are cooked
  • Do not overbake them. Let it cool on a wire rack
  • Enjoy warn soft buns!
